Boka Kotorska Region, Montenegro

The Boka Kotorska (also known as Kotor Bay) is the Mediterranean’s only Fjord. As one of the four Montenegrin seaside regions, Boka Kotorska is made up of four beautiful bays, and adorned by historic towns surrounded by wild and rugged mountains.

This stunning Fjord is a true visitor’s delight, full of scenic variety, charm and exploring potential. Kotor is situated at the bottom of the Bay of Kotor and is a UNESCO World Heritage Monument amongst other towns in the region.

The old town of Kotor has managed to keep its medieval Mediterranean atmosphere with narrow, zigzag streets and churches dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. Kotor has a daily market for fresh produce and a large market on Saturdays.

Within the old town there are many cafes, bars, restaurants, shops and a lively night life. Above the old town there is a walk up to the San Giovanni Fortress.

Further up the bay opposite the entrance to the Verige Strait which leads into the Bay of Risan and the Bay of Kotor is the village of Perast. Perast has two distinct islands, St George and Our Lady of the Rock.

Perast is a beautiful old UNESCO protected village dating back centuries and steeped in maritime history and representing one of the most beautiful examples of baroque architecture.

At the furthest end of the bay is Risan which was the oldest town in the bay dating back to 4^th century B.C. Risan still has a Mosaic dating back to this time which is open to the public and a lively market on Sundays.

There are many wonderful walks in this Mediterranean region with magnificent panoramic views of the bays stretching out to sea.

Hikers can plan guided tours to suit their ability enjoying Montenegro’s cultural heritage.

Walkers can do shorter guided routes or walk one of the many short routes leisurely at their own pace.

The best months to walk in this area are April- end of June and September - end of October.

Both villas are south facing and situated 20 metres from the sea, ideal for spring, summer and autumn holidays. Both villas are in easy reach of Dubrovnik (Croatia) and Tivat airports. Easy Jet and Thomsons offer charter flights operating between England and Dubrovnik airport, and May 2010 Thomsons are due to start operating from England to Tivat which is about half an hour from our villas. The National park of Lovcen which encompasses the central highest part of Lovcen Mt massif 1,749 m altitude where you have the Njegos Mausoleum.

From the top of Lovcen on a clear day you have panoramic views as far as Podgorica, Skada Lake and Perast and sometimes even Italy.
